"GREAT GREAT GRANDPA"
Dave dedicated many years between 1977-1985, running and organizing
“Go Karts” throughout the North; Dargaville, Whangarei, Kawakawa & Kaikohe.
Dave joined Kaikohe Speedway in 1986; he entered the B Grade class
with a Holden Torana running a 265 Hemi motor, he went on to win the
“Mike Able Trophy” during Easter of 1986/1987 season, for the most “Courteous Driver”.
Dave race the Torana for two seasons and then in 1988-89 he
built his first C Grade Car, a Ford Escort was the first followed by,
a fiat, Mini and then back to Escorts.
On the 2nd January 2000 Dave was a victim of a dangerous
driver on Mangakahia Road, south of Kaikohe, he was trapped in his van
and spent the next 3 months in a wheelchair.
Dave was determine to get out of the wheelchair as soon
as he could and later in the same year purchased “Telly Tubby”
70K a Mitsubishi Celise, which he later sold and brought a Datsun 23K,
in which he became runner up at Taipa Club Day Champs.
“Telly Tubby” and Dave went on to win; 2002 over-all points
Kaikohe C Grade Men, 2003 over-all points Kaikohe C Grade Men.
In 2005 Dave went on to build his Telstar “Madness” 23K
(with the help of his nephew Myles Greenwood), in which he achieved;
2004 over-all points Kaikohe C Grade men, 2006 Runner-up
Club Points for the year, 2007 NBC C Grade Trophy Men’s, Kaikohe Speedway
Easter Stampede 2007 the “Grandpa Trophy”.
2008/2009 Dave moved into men's Standard Production with his new Holden Commodore.
Dave has been an active and valued committee member at
Kaikohe Speedway since 1988.
He is married with three children, five Grandchildren
and One great Grandchild.
Dave would like to thank Myles Greenwood and Rhys Irving
as with out their help he would not have achieved what he has to date.
Dave loves “Dirt Track Racing” and at 60yrs he said he will be there
“until the day he dies!”
